The Vision beyond borders

Meet Mateus Malta da Costa

Experience... outdoors sports, education, ecology...

Born in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. I moved to Naples, Florida with my family at a young age where I began exploring the gulf coastal waters with a fishing rod and a thirst for adventure. At the age of seventeen, I attended Chewonki’s Maine Coast Semester School for high school juniors. There, I cultivated a passion for ecology, stewardship, and sustainability. I then studied Environmental Science at Florida Gulf Coast University(FGCU). While finishing my undergraduate, I worked as a Campus Naturalist leading environmental field trips for university students into the sultry swamps and estuaries of Southwest Florida. Before working as an Outdoor Programs Instructor for the Chewonki Foundation, you might have found me instructing/guiding kayak eco-tours, educating elementary students about Florida's wildlife at the prestigious Naples Botanical Garden, engaging in photography, or casting out a fishing line in the rich estuaries and backwaters of Southwest Florida. After spending one-year educating youth groups and studying in Grand Teton National Park pursuing a career in education within Teton Science School's(TSS) Graduate Program, I am currently coordinating the operations of field-based ecology programs for IslandWood an environmental nonprofit located on Bainbridge Island, Washington.
